After the movie in 2017 recall city of Dunkirk often rings a bell. However I arrived here for a different reason, let's talk a bit later about it.
Of course there is a huge Gothic cathedral in the city center. Not as huge as in Amiens, but still impressive.
Locals told me after the movie in 2017 they got much more tourists in the city. To be honest, there is not really much to see here.
The most important is this belfry (the tower with bell). One of 56. The others are somewhere in France and Belgium. It's in UNESCO list (:
The building itself is a Town-hall. People are allowed to come inside. Sometimes there are held exhibitions.
They sell bread Borodino (the one related to Borodino field from Napoleon times)! Also I saw some very suspicious Cannibals cafe. I didn't take a chance to visit it.
Meantime I go closer to the sea (even though the weather wasn't perfect for it).
Museum on ships. Those don't go to the sea for a long time already.
Exactly the beach from where soldiers were evacuated during Dunkirk operation.
Recent times there is active process to build new hotels and encourage tourism. Are the new owners aware that the sea is pretty cold (even in summer months) and tourist season is rather short?
Finally. This ship is why I'm here. I'm going to go on it to Netherlands (with short stop in Belgium).
