Image for New York

I already was in New York City quite a while ago. From first glance everything is still the same: homeless people and freaks are still there, garbage on streets (it's a bit cleaner on central ones). Lots of people who's running somewhere and seems to be already late, or just lots of tourists who's just lurking around.

This time I was here in winter. The one which wasn't normal. Within a week we had the temperature range from -17C to +17C. In February (!). Locals told me it wasn't usual weather. Well. This is a story I keep hearing a few years in a row already during my trips. I'm kinda used to it (:

The thing which really differs from previous trip is a huge amount of halal street food. I remember there was a hot-dog wheel on every corner. Now those are gone and there are Halal guys and Falafel Kings instead. For "The Halal Guys" read the history on wikipedia. It's pretty interesting.

During the day these street food places (or even normal cafes) are collecting the garbage. Closer to night it's put outside right on the street, so garbage guys would pick it during the night. There's no place to put the trash during the day due to tight city planning. That's the way they live.

Accidentally ran into DMC DeLorean. It was produced just two years from 1981 to 1983. They did less than 10000 cars. It's a pure luck to find the one which is still working (:

City tries to make a better conditions for bikers. From my impression they don't really succeed in it yet: I see dedicated lanes for bikes, I see bikes stops, but there were not many bikers over there. May be it was so due to winter and unexpected -17C (:

For those who love adrenaline, there's minivans where one can buy sweets with cannabis extract. Well, even though there's a huge movement to legalize cannabis in US, it's still (2019) prohibited in NY. So that's just a marketing trick. According to internet reviews, it has no effect at all (:

This time I came to NYC for a business trip. This is how the working desk looks like. I had a feeling like I'm in a movie. It looks absolutely the same they show us in sketches or series.

Comparing to Germany, people in here communicate much more. Though the work is more productive. May be the secret is that they have tea with Valerian (:

Well, business is business, but stereotypes are the same everywhere. If you're Russian, then most likely you love drinking. Preferably something strong. That's why you must take a tour to nearby bars. Fortunately people don't go mad if you don't follow heavy drinker stereotype.

One evening after working hours I managed to go to a musical show. I was surprised that even the show was already a few years old, it still had a full theater. Take in account that ticket price isn't cheap at all. Though the performance is truly amazing: everything from the play (maybe except one guy (: ), to the costumes and decorations. It was really worth every penny I paid.

It's not a Bolshoy Theater like inside, but still pretty cozy.

I was very surprised to see bike taxi in New York on the theater exit. I even stayed a little to watch them: during the 5 minutes I was there nobody from performance audience didn't hire these guys. Well, it might be just way too expensive :)

Street performers. Not all of them do it for money. These Asians guys looks like just celebrate Chinese New Year.

New York public library. By the way, "The day after tomorrow" was filmed here.

It's a beautiful building. One of the world biggest library! Didn't make it in here during my previous visit.

There are so many skyscrapers in NYC, as it has a solid bedrock under Manhattan. So you don't really have to care about the building foundation that much. Not many cities has the same start condition. It's really interesting to see how buildings height goes down, while you move from center to the water :)
