As usually I'm starting explore the city from the main train station. It's pretty clean here, nearby the exit you can find amazing tourist information service and pick up free map with route over the city or just get some good advice.

Though in Zurich it's not a usual train station. They have here something like bazaar each Wednesday and sometimes over weekend. You can buy here some Swiss cheese, taste sausages with beer or enjoy a merry-go-round.

People in city speak German. It even sounds like german German, probably it is so because Germany is so close.
The city itself is not that big. Population is just around 400 thousands. Though it's still the biggest city in the whole country. A long time ago here was just a simple border checkpoint between states or Roman Empire. Now it's a beautiful city.

There is a river Limmat going through the city with a big lake in the end.

The area is pretty hilly. On top of one hill you can find linden alley. Exactly in this place there was Roman border gate.

Near the end of Roman time Christianity came to the city. So now there are a lot of churches, abbeys and monasteries. E.g. Church of St. Peter is famous for the biggest clock in Europe. 8 meter in diameter. It's really huge clock.

Streets are quiet and peaceful. There are a lot of shops and caffes here. Though prices are pretty high. Average bill for non-fastfood place would start from 15-20 euro, which is quite more expensive then in Germany.

You also can visit on of the watch shop and you can easily find a model for 50-60k euro. Though if you're a Swiss citizen that might be not such a big deal. They even strike for a minimal wage around 4k euro per month. Which means avg salary is a bit higher :)

So, if you're not rich enough for a good watch, you can try some chocolate. One of the most famous Confiserie Sprüngli which was founded almost 200 years ago. They make here amazing truffles. I even tasted a one-day truffle first time in my life. 2 euro per one peace. Though it was really good.

After the chocolate mood was much better and I went to see Grossmünster and Fraumünster churches. We will return to Grossmünster a bit later. Now Fraumünster. It's a women abbey. The stained glass windows in the choir are by Marc Chagall. Unfortunately you're not allowed to take photos inside, so if you wanna see it, you should start looking for tickets to Zurich :)

I didn't expect to find such a big flea market in Zurich, it really surprised me. One can find here anything from old used coats up to children toys. Sale guys do not look like foreigners here which is also strange.

After the market there is a beautiful lake.

You can relax here, have some rest from the city vanity and even feed some swans. It looks like they do not afraid people at all.

Though for ones who prefer extreme you can enjoy jumping from the bridge. However it was quite cold for swimming, hust about +20. Though there were some guys who did it.

Nearby just a common citizens take some time during the weekend. Sitting, relaxing :)

Though it's time go back to Grossmünster. A couple of coins will allow you to go upstairs to check the city from the top of church tower.

Swiss people really like national flag. Flags are everywhere. Though it's quite unusual for European county. I've seen something like this only in Turkey and USA.

In the night city doesn't sleep. It is not usual for Europe as well. Most of the shops are closed during the late evening, though a lot of bars, restaurants starts to attract people. My hostel was in the center of city night life area, so it was quite noisy. Though still fun and even acceptable for some sleep.

Lenin has lived in Zurich before Russian revolution. Exactly at this peaceful street. I also would like to leave in place like this :)

City centre is quite small and you can easily explore it in one day by walking. Though if you're lazy enough feel free to enjoy city bus tour. Why not?
