Watkins Glen Park 31.08.2019

Image for Watkins Glen Park

I was lucky enough to catch a long weekend in US. That's awful experience in terms of short weekend trip. If you can avoid it, please do so.
The entire country tries to see something, as that's a chance to go somewhere for 3 days. Huge crowds were everywhere. Car rental price was x4 from normal price (probably due to late booking). At least I won a lottery with a car itself. Rental company was already out of options so they upgraded me to BMW 530i for free (:

From the other side during weekends there is a free parking just 2 minutes away from the entrance. If you arrive early enough. The parking isn't available during business days as it's restricted only to municipal workers from different departments which are sitting in the building next door.

The park is a trail along the long gorge. Even in a sunny hot day it will be fresh and shaded inside.

The trail isn't that wide, plus there's a lot of people. Many of them want to take a nice picture..

Thus in some places it was very busy. As someone joked in the line, it was more like a New-York subway experience, than a hike in a state park.

Some travel in a big groups, which doesn't help either.

This one is the most famous and most advertised view in the gorge (and the most photoshopped one in the Internets (: ). It's very beautiful here, especially when it doesn't have that many people.

I can't say I don't like people that much, but trust me, it's not enjoyable experience when you have way too many people in one place. Fortunately a lot of hikers don't want to go till the trail end and it's much better there.

The trail is quite wet in some places. This guy knows how to trail (:

On the way back there is an option to hike through upper trail. There is also a cemetery and stone mini-towers.

The park is cool, but there are also a lot of wineries around and lakes. So here I am.

It turned out New York state produces a lot of wine. There were dozens of signs to different wine wineries along the road. The grape itself also looks good (even though I don't really understand a thing in raw grape (: )

The house next to winery. Just like from the movie.

Watkins Glen is very beautiful, but it's not the only gorge in this area. There are several parks like that. Fortunately I was quick enough to make it to one more.

It might be not a as photogenic, but I much more enjoyed the walk.

If I won't count the road, I spend just one day in this area. Definitely that's not enough. I should plan a longer trip one day.
