Image for Dublin

Ireland is a relatively small island country with quite complicated and hard history. Through over the time country experienced a number of invasions from different directions which is printed in its history. Though lets start from the beginning. Dublin city. The capital of Republic of Ireland

In general the city looks grey. Most of the castles and churches are build from grey stone. Add a weather which changes from sizzling sun to drizzle extremely fast (with temperature around 15-20 degrees) doesn't add much colours in overall picture.

However it's not that bad. Irish people (and those who just moved) look really buoyant. Some of them asked to take a picture of them (well some of them just asked, other just tried to jump into the shot). It was not just once, but several times for the day. Which was a bit unusual. Though they didn't try to still or sell something afterwards. So it's ok.

Especially I would like to mention tourist care. Tourist information offices are everywhere. So you won't have a chance to miss at least one of them. In Moscow with tourist information it's much worse.

And buses. It was a while since I saw so many buses. Different kind of them: tourist, line buses, air link buses (airport transfer). Even the price is normal (airport <-> city centre transfer is just 6 euro). And the schedule is quite frequent. It's comfortable.

Dozens of pubs and restaurants are located in Temple Bar area. Every place tries to attract visitors as they can. In most cases it's live Irish music and beer :) Then in day time they exchange empty beer barrels. Though prices here is above average (and the quality is below). Everything is designed for tourists. Thus locals prefer to avoid this place and visit something outside the district. Here it's too expensive and loud.

If we return a bit back in time, so we can find out, that a bit after Norman invasion in Ireland (close to the end of 12 century) they decided to build a castle. Fortified castle with walls and all the stuff to protect King's treasure. So the built it with some iterations and it's still in quite a good shape.

Though the failed to make a Lady Justice in the right way [left pic]. It should have eyes bandage to make decision without looking at the thing. But sees everything. The same thing is in Russia. On Supreme Court building :) [right pic]

In the city they have a lot of free tours. Well, "free" it's only for marketing purposes. In the beginning they tell you that it's strongly recommended to leave some tip in the end, as it's work anyway. The groups are quite big. Also language schools have really big groups. Looks like they study English.
By the way, in Ireland people have Irish (Gaelic) language. Though almost nobody speaks it on daily basis. Moreover, most Irish people have English as native and Irish as second language. There is only a small region in Ireland which is known as Irish speaking region. Though even there only people 80+ years are native speakers, the rest have Irish as second language (though they are trying to pretend it's not true :) ).

Also there are so many mews in the city. They are everywhere. You just walk in the city and can listen these birds from almost any part of the city.

Pedestrians crossings are marked with arrows to check if there is a coming car. It is really convenient. Especially for tourists from countries with wrong sided traffic like me (by the way, just 66% of world traffic is right handed).

Ireland is also known by its world famous dark beer - Guinness. It was invented here more than a hundred years ago. Though today it's produced all over the world. Still in Dublin they have most technology advanced storehouse. And it's open for visitors.

Recently it was a build one more bridge in Dublin. Though it already became one of the city symbols. Samuel Beckett Bridge.

Though some prefer to use it to jump into the water.

It was also funny that they have ice club. It's just a normal club, though inside everything is made from ice. They even give a jacket on the entrance. They should visit Russia in winter :)
