Modern buildings from glass and stone might be comfortable from the inside, but too similar and gray from the outside. Big cities, crowds. Always the same. Fortunately there is always a part without that modern stuff. So here I am this weekend. The itinerary was Frankfurt→ (train) Koblenz→ (water) Sankt Goar→ (water) Binger→ (train) Mainz→ (train) Frankfurt. Though I had to change it on the fly, as I missed te ship from Koblenz to Sankt Goar, so I had to go this part by train as well. Though it's even better this way, as I was able to spend two hours more in Sankt Goar. Too many impressions and photos. So I split it to two posts.
So I arrived to Koblenz. Small nice town for 100 thousands citizens (according to Wikipedia, though it didn't look so big) on the Rhine river.

There was nothing special here. Just some strange lights. They had two red men on every cross road :)

After around 30 minutes walk I returned back to train station and finally reached Sankt Goar. Town was founded in VI century on the Rhine river. Nowadays there lives around 3000 people and it is protected by UNESCO since 2002.

The city lies on the riverside. There is a hill right after the city, so you can check the city and beautiful Rhine from up there.

I spent quite a while on a top. Had to leave only cause the ship back to home was arriving soon. And I also had to see Rheinfels castle, which was built in 1245 and was the biggest castle between Mainz and Koblenz. Nowadays there is a museum and a hotel.

Sankt Goar city is build like usual European city: narrow street, small houses are quite dense.

Over the river there is a place called Lorelei. Back in the old days rocky shore and the quick river flow was the cause for a high number of drown boats. According to local legend it’s the favorite place for Lore Lay, she seduced fishers and made them drown. Princess of Yusupov put the monument to Loreley (by the way, Yusupovs were the owners of this land a while ago).

I visited one of the souvenir shop and had a nice chat with the seller. She didn’t believe me that I’m from Russia. She told that as I can speak English than I definitely not from Russia. Russians can’t speak English. I tried to explain her the truth, though I still have a feeling she didn’t believe me :)
Afterwards I continued my way to Bingen.
